For years, the challenge of counterfeit saffron or mixed saffron of grades one, two, and three in the market has resulted in many consumers being unfamiliar with the real quality of saffron, which is initially produced by the farmer.
In some cases, saffron, after being delivered to intermediaries, loses its quality during processing due to the pursuit of higher profits by some middlemen. Often, it is mixed with old, broken, frost-damaged saffron or saffron derived from wilted flowers, or even counterfeit saffron, which diminishes its quality.
